A Funny Little Bird

birdI found a Funny Little Bird to be full of fun, excitement, and even a good lesson on being a friend and a nice person (or bird!).  The little bird in the story is almost invisible and soon becomes upset because he has no friends.  But after an afternoon of collecting beautiful things around him, others began to notice him and he began to show off only to be scared by a fox.  The funny little bird learned to be a good friend to those around him and learned that showing off is not a very nice thing to do.

I loved reading this story because it’s somewhat unexpected with a white, little bird that has no outline on white pages, the only way you seem him is when there are other parts of his environment showing you his outline.  I plan on using this story in story time with a friend-focused theme, but a one-on-one sharing would also work really well to talk with preschoolers about what it means to be a good friend and a good person.

Jennifer Yerkes currently lives in France and the only website that I could find for her as an author/illustrator is her blog… in French, so sadly I couldn’t read to much, but maybe you can!  Check it out!
