Dreaming Up: A Celebration of Building

71-PayVlIRL__SL1000_Dreaming Up: A Celebration of Building by Christy Hale is a wonderful book to use in connection with a building program.  This book combines poetry, children playing, and architectural works that span the globe.  There is no better thing for a child to do than participate in creative and imaginative play and this book helps children to be inspired to do just that!  I also enjoyed the fact that the building materials are extremely diverse – allowing children to discover creativity in a variety of methods.

I also enjoyed this because although it is a book to share with young children, the book also gives more information about the architects and the buildings featured.  I think that informative text for young children often skims over this vital aspect of showing kids that there are sources to find more information and to never gloss over informative text for even the youngest of children.

I plan on using this book with an upcoming Lego building event – it should work out perfectly!
