Mr. Terupt Falls Again

MrTfallsagain_cover_292183328_stdA powerful story of how a teacher and his students can affect each other over the course of a school year.  Mr. Terupt Falls Again written by Rob Buyea is the companion novel to Because of Mr. Terupt told in the point-of-view of seven students in his classroom in both fifth grade and then again in sixth grade.

I picked up Because of Mr. Terupt on the recommendation of a regular library visitor in 4th grade and I loved the book.  I think most kids would benefit from having a teacher like Mr. Terupt in school.  His character is excited about learning, provides interesting (and educational) projects for his students, and he loves to read, ensuring that his students learn to love to read also!

The characters are extremely realistic – each with their own voice and backstory.  I thought it would be a little confusing to have seven narrators, but Rob Buyea is able to balance each of the narrators giving them their own voice and making it very easy for the reader to follow along.  This books also tackles some serious topics that many middle schoolers begin to experience in a straightforward manner, helping readers to understand themselves and the world around them.  I think everyone who reads this book can relate to one or more of the characters in this book, making it very relatable to students.
