Bad Girls

badgirlsThis was such an interesting title, I just had to pick it up!  Written in (very) short chapters, the authors cover 26 “bad” girls of history with  graphic novel conversation between the authors as to their own opinions on each of the women.  Many of these women I have heard of, but it was interesting to learn more about them as women and how the world has perceived them.

Jane Yolen co-authored this book with her daughter which leads the graphic novel portion of this book to have an interesting take through their discussion.  I honestly wish there was more written about each woman, but I understand the format was to give just enough information to intrigue children to want to find out more.  And what’s great is that each woman ahs a brief bibliography in the back of the book for more sources to find information.  This would make a great informational text for girls who are looking for something different from the typical fiction stories.  It could also be used in a classroom discussion about point of view… the authors inform the readers (multiple times) that these women were considered “bad” but it’s up to each reader to decide how “bad” is truly bad.
