Story Time Theme: Camping

Maisy-Goes-Camping-maisy-mouse-17265600-400-332This week I focused on camping and hiking, hoping to encourage parents to enjoy the great outdoors with their children.  Many of the children had never been camping or hiking before but we also talked about fishing (which many children were familiar with).  I also mentioned that the walk down to the playground behind the library could be a hike as well, hoping to show parents that a walk around the neighborhood is just as important.

For the most part these stories worked out really well.  We focused a lot on counting which seemed to help the kids get involved.  I would have loved to use Scare a Bear by Kathy-jo Wargin, but our copy was checked out and I couldn’t get another copy in time.  This week marks the half-way point for our summer story time session, which means my vacation is around the corner!
