State of America’s Libraries 2013 Report

If I had a nickel for everyone time I told someone I was a librarian and their response was either, “You have to go to school to do that?” or “Aren’t you afraid you won’t have a job in 5 years?” – I’d be rich!  Yes, you have to go to school (graduate school, even) and I agree libraries are changing, but that doesn’t mean they will be non-existent in 5-10 years.  Libraries are being forced to catch up with technology, provide new services for patrons, and change how they are viewed by the communities they serve.

The American Libraries Association has released the State of American Libraries 2013 Report which covers public, school, and academic libraries as well as variety of topics from copyright issues, ebooks, social networking, outreach, and intellectual freedom, to name a few.  Although the report is extensive at a little over 80-pages, it is full of valuable information for librarians across the country.  Take a look at the report produced by ALA.

Another great place to find information about the library world is the Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Information about employment, salary, and occupational information can be found with a number of statistics broken down by state.  Take a look at this website for some really interesting information.
