Doll Bones

15944406If you’re looking for a creepy book that makes you want to leave the lights on when you go to sleep, Doll Bones by Holly Black is the perfect choice!  Middle schoolers Zach, Alice, and Poppy are best friends that play an elaborate adventure-filled imaginative game filled with action figures and dolls.  Ruling over their kingdom is a special, antique bone china doll they’ve named the Great Queen.  But it’s not until Poppy declares they must got on a quest after she learns of the Queen’s true identity and her  need for peace.

This was an all-around creepy book – mostly because it involved an antique doll and strange occurrences that were never fully explained.  As I read the story, I could see the doll in my mind with those blank eyes that follow your every move.  I am not especially fond of reading (or watching) scary books, movies, tv shows, etc.  But, my young patrons are always asking for different kinds of books, so I like to give everything a try.  This is definitely one to put on the list when someone asks for a scary book!

Holly Black (the author) also co-authored the Spiderwick Chronicles and some young adult books as well!  You can find out more, by checking out her website!
