When Santa Fell to Earth

When_Santa_Fell_to_Earth_Cornelia_Funke_unabridged_compact_discsAs many others out there do, I drove multiple hours to get to my parent’s house for the Christmas holiday and I have found that if I can find a really good book on CD that the trip goes that much more quickly.  As I was perusing the shelves before the holiday, I came across When Santa Fell to Earth by Cornelia Funke.  It’s an “older” book as in it was published in 2006 and somehow I missed it, so I thought it would be the perfect company on my car ride home.

The sound recording itself is only about three  hours, which definitely keeps my attention much better than some of the longer books and the author read the story herself.  Now normally, people think, “Who could read the book better than the author?” and often times come back disappointed because authors are authors for a reason and performers have a different set of talents, but I enjoyed Funke’s reading and the story itself was very cute as well!

When Santa falls to Earth mere weeks before Christmas, it is up to two kids in the neighborhood to help him save Christmas from the money-hungry schemes of Gerold Geronimus Goblynch and to get into the air in time to deliver the presents.  This would be a great read aloud story for the whole family or for children looking for a chapter book story about Christmas!  Check out Cornelia Funke’s website!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season and I, for one, and excited to see what 2013 brings!
