Liar & Spy

Written by Newbery Award Winning writer, Rebecca Stead, Liar & Spy is a tale of mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end.  When Georges (the s is silent) moves into an apartment building in Brooklyn, he meets Safer a kid his own age and a self-appointed spy of the neighborhood.  As Georges begins to spend more time with Safer, he begins to wonder if being friends with Safer is a good idea.  Meanwhile, at home, Georges mom is never home working double-shifts at the hospital, while his dad tries to start-up his own business.  And at school, Georges is getting picked on by, Dallas, the class bully.

Liar & Spy is a book about spies, friendship, and courage.  A story similar in style to Stead’s When You Reach Me, Liar & Spy will keep surprising you until the very end.  I really enjoyed reading this story and the way the story handles bullying and friendship will definitely ring true for middle school students.
