Down By the Station

Down By the Station written by Jennifer Riggs Vetter and illustrated by Frank Remkiewicz is one of my favorite “transportation” themed stories for young children.  It works really well in story time because you can actually sing the whole story which keeps the kids interested, but it would work just as well as a one-on-one story too.

The story starts as the song does with a bright red train down by the station early in the morning.  What follows is every type of transportation imaginable from a school bus to excavators to rocket ships and everything in between.  The story is not too long making it perfect for toddlers and preschoolers, especially little boys who love “things that go.”  The illustrations are brightly colored and along with the vehicles also include a number of animals from drivers to riders.

This is a fun story to share and is one that I keep coming back to because it works so well!  Enjoy!
