Show Me a Story! – Literacious
I can’t remember how I came across this book, but it looked very intriguing and so I decided to try it out. Show Me a Story!: Why Pictures Books Matter, Conversations with 21 of the World’s Most Celebrated Illustrators is a fascinating read for librarians, book lovers, and artists alike! Leonard S. Marcus, a leading writer about children’s books, compiled the 21 interviews into a fascinating book that will make you think about book illustrations in a completely different way. The illustrators talk about their childhoods, when their interest in art and more particularly children’s illustrating began, and their process for illustrating. Children’s book illustrations have not been truly considered art, until recently. Now you can buy illustrations prints, visit museums solely devoted to children’s book illustrations, and read all about illustrators as artists. It’s an exciting time, and this book is not only informative, but is also very interesting. I can’t wait to finish it! If you’re interested in the idea of illustrations as art, take a look at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art located a few hours from Boston… someday I will visit, someday!
