The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

I absolutely loved this story!  The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane was written by Kate DiCamillo, the same author who wrote Because of Winn-Dixie and The Tale of Desperaux, among many others.   You take the journey of a china rabbit named Edward Tulane, from his quiet existence with his little girl Abilene, to an old fisherman and his wife, to a hobo and his dog, and to a very sick child.  Throughout the journey Edward learns what love truly means and begins to understand its power.

This is such a beautifully written story – reminiscent of classics with beautiful language making it a perfect read-aloud for the whole family.  I haven’t even mentioned the beautiful drawings done by Bagram Ibatoulline which again lendsthemselves to the classical feel of the book.  The sepia drawings at the beginning of each chapter give a brief glimpse ofwhat will happen next and the full-page colored drawings are beautiful with soft, quiet colors that make this the perfect bedtime story to share.

If you get a chance, make sure to check out the website for Edward Tulane where there are behind-the-scenes videos, reader’s theatre skits, teacher’s guides, and much more.  You can also check out Kate DiCamillo’s website for the latest information about her newest book.
