The Cheshire Cheese Cat: A Dickens of a Tale

The Cheshire Cheese Cat: A Dickens of a Tale is written by Carmen Agra Deedy, the author of The Library Dragon, and Martina, The Beautiful Cockroach, and 14 Cows for America, among many others and Randall Wright.  I was hesitant to pick this book up because I’m not really one for a historical fiction book about cats and mice, but I was pleasantly surprised.  Deedy has a beautiful way of weaving a story together that makes it feel so seamless.

I really enjoyed the Charles Dickens character with references to his other works throughout the story.  I wish we could have interacted with him a little more, but the true story was about an alley cat with a secret, a well-read mouse, and a wounded raven.  This story reminds me a little of The Tale of Desperaux, but stands on its own and its a wonderful read – especially for those who love animals!
