The Mother-Daughter Book Club

I’ve been wanting to read The Mother-Daughter Book Club by Heather Vogel Frederick for a while now, but with so much else to read, it got put on the back burner, until I noticed a new book in the series just recently came out in time for the holidays, so I finally picked this one!  And I’m so glad I did!  This is the coming-of-age story of four middle school girls who have absolutely nothing in common except that their mothers decided to create a mother-daughter book club together.

Frederick does an amazing job keeping each character real and unique – giving each girl a distinct voice which can be clearly heard.  I found this book to be a light-hearted read with many middle school issues coming into play and Frederick was able to drum up all of those middle school feelings as I read this book.  This book itself would be a great mother-daughter book club choice and I’m thinking that I might just have to try this out for a new program next year…
